Definition for "Language Functions"



A lot of what we say is for a specific purpose. Each purpose can be known as a language function.
Some examples are: expressing a wish, asking permission, ask advice, express affection, and introduce ourselves.

Another useful definitions are:
Dutro & Moran’s formula for designing successful English language learning lessons throughout the day consist of analyzing the concept and skill requirements of lessons in:
o The language task (function)
o The necessary tools (forms of language) for carrying out that task
o Ways of providing opportunities for practice and application(developing fluency)
